Stump N' GrindCall

Do you need to call 811 before stump grinding?

Small cut stump in a lawn beside a gravel driveway

811 marks public utility lines, and grinding only goes a short way below the surface, so the real risk is private lines that 811 does not mark. If you plan to dig yourself, New Jersey law requires a call to 811 at least three business days before.

What 811 does not cover

  • Septic tanks, distribution boxes and drain fields.
  • Irrigation lines and sprinkler heads.
  • Well pump power and water lines from the well.
  • Invisible dog fence wire.
  • Low-voltage landscape lighting and yard electrical to a shed.

What to tell your stump grinder

Show us where private lines run, even if you only half remember. If a stump sits over a septic field, we hand-cut that area or tell you the grind would be risky. Roots grow around pipes, and a grinding wheel will cut a shallow line in a second.

Before you book

When you text a photo, mention anything buried near the stump. It changes how we work and costs nothing to say. More answers on the FAQ.
